Overview
2020 Olympic Games Archery Events:
Target: 122 cm in diameter (the center of it is 130 cm from the ground)
Firing distance: 70 m
Athletes shoot arrows with bows on a target; the number of points obtained is given by the arrows having reached the target. There are individual and team events (of three).
Key points
The arrows fly at a speed of approximately 250 km / h (70 m / s).
Great muscular strength and a strong mind capable of withstanding the pressure are needed for a precise shot.
A time limit is imposed, whether for individual or team events, and shots must be taken within the allotted time.
10 concentric circles of the same interval are drawn on the target; that of the center is worth 10 points, and the number of points gained decreases by 1 as one moves away from the center, to the edge of the target.
Competitors (teams) shooting their arrows one after another, we have the pleasure to see, as competitors, to see the victory of changing hands.
Finally, the victory is determined by qualifying round. For each of these, competitors score themselves and recover their arrows.
History
The bow is the first real throwing weapon of humanity, and its discovery goes back to prehistory.
However, it was mostly used for hunting, not for sport.
The beginning of archery as a sports discipline dates back to the 16th century, at a competition organized by Henry VIII.
Archery became official Olympic discipline at the 1900 Paris Olympics, but was withdrawn at the 1920 Antwerp Games, returning to the 1972 Munich Games.
Since the Seoul games of 1988, the team events have been introduced.
Recently, Takaharu Furukawa won the silver medal and the women's team (Miki Kanie, Ren Hayakawa and Kaori Kawanaka) won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Games.
